Jeffrey E. Johnston was born in Richmond County, Georgia, but moved to Columbia County at age 8 and graduated from Evans High School in 1994. After high school, Jeff played junior college basketball at Aiken Technical College, but after 2 years, transferred to Augusta State University to finish his degree. Jeff earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Augusta State University, along with a minor in Accounting. During his time at Augusta State, Jeff participated in the Student Government Association and earned the Richmond County Good Government Award his senior year.
Jeff received a merit scholarship to attend Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2002. While attending Mercer, Jeff was a student member of the American Bar Association, was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, and was a member of the 2001 Client Counseling Team.
After finishing law school, Jeff worked as a law clerk for judges J. Carlisle Overstreet and Carl C. Brown, Jr. Following that experience, Jeff spent the next several years developing his trial skills as an Assistant District Attorney in the Augusta Judicial Circuit under then District Attorney, Daniel J. Craig. During his tenure as a prosecutor, Jeff tried and won numerous felony jury trials.
Jeff and his wife Malinda live in Evans, Georgia and have three daughters, Hannah, Mackenzie and Lily. They are active members of West Acres Baptist Church.
